Meditation on the Elements
This meditation helps you tap into your own powers of healing and rejuvenation. It takes about 20 minutes.
Find a comfortable position whether sitting on the floor, or in a chair with your feet touching the floor and hands supported by your thighs, or in yoga corpse pose. Close your eyes, relax each muscle, still and quite your mind. Let your breathing become even and fluid without force.
(pause)
As your breathing slows turn your attention to the element of air. We take in life with each breath, nurturing our bodies and spirits. Breathe in Life. Breath in Joy. Breath in Happiness. Breath in Love. Let these things fill you and make your spirit lighter.
(pause)
Now move your attention to the earth solidly beneath you. How it holds you, supports you. In stillness reach with your mind towards earth and feel the humming and life-pulse of Earth's song echo within your own body.
(pause)
Fire is next, heating of muscle, cleansing fever, spark and electric current, and the firing of synapse. Let fire now run through you - surround you. See it in your mind expanding outside your body and become a protective blue flame. Stand in the center of the flame, in this ring of fire.
(pause)
Lastly the element of water washes away and soothes. Both destructive and nurturing, water like our emotions ebb and flow with the tide. Float now in a calm, clear pool. Simply observe any undercurrent or blockages so you may attend to them later.
(pause)
Air, Earth, Fire, Water. Draw strength from each element as needed throughout your day: to lighten your spirit, to firmly ground yourself, to empower and protect, to cleanse and grow emotionally. Open your eyes as you travel back to the here and now.
Namaste
The Garden Meditation
(a variation of the heart meditation)
Find a comfortable position whether sitting on the floor, or in a chair with your feet touching the floor and hands supported by your thighs, or in yoga corpse pose. Close your eyes, relax each muscle, still and quite your mind. Let your breathing become even and fluid without force.
(pause)
Travel now deep within your own heart to a secret garden, where time has no limitations. An enchanted place, a sacred place, a safe place. Every flower and stone, tree and stream is of your own making. Let your senses explore. Dwell here for a time without judgment, without expectations.
(pause)
Select an inhabitant whether it be plant, animal or mineral and let it tell you any secrets it wishes to impart. Be prepared to meet spirit guides, or individuals from your past, present or future. Spend as much time as you need, this is your journey into self.
(pause)
In gratitude thank those who chose to speak with you and acknowledge any insights you might have gained. Slowly begin traveling back to the here and now, opening our eyes when you are ready.
Namaste.
