Welcome to Allie's Yoga.

Personalized yoga lessons are the most effective form of Yoga, and the quickest way to reach your goals.

As you may have noticed, if you want to take a Yoga class, there are numerous styles to choose from. From trendy to traditional, there seem to be classes for every body type and personality.

What you may not know is that the whole concept of a Yoga "class" is relatively new as compared to the history of the practice. For centuries Yoga was not taught in group classes, but as a one-on-one practice. The reason you see so many styles of Yoga classes is that there are so many types of people, all with different proficiency levels. And as our bodies and minds develop and change over time (at different rates!), each person's Yoga practice needs to respond to those changes to remain effective.

Allie's Yoga embraces the original format of teaching Yoga with personalized one-on-one instruction. A private Yoga practice ensures that you are gently guided in the right direction for your particular needs, that you work towards goals that suit your body and your temperament, and that you maximize your own personal growth.

But how do you know when you should seek out private instruction?

These are some of the instances where personalized Yoga practice could be the difference you've been looking for.

But you don't need a reason beyond the simple desire to practice Yoga as it was originally practiced: as a personal and unique experience for your mind and body.


No matter what your reasons for scheduling a personalized Yoga session...

I will begin with an assessment of how you are feeling at the moment, both physically and mentally. This interview is also an opportunity for you to express your goals and desires. Based on this assessment, I will determine which asanas, breathing practices and meditation techniques to lead you through.

A good personalized Yoga session depends on uninhibited communication between the student and teacher. You will find that I frequently ask what you are experiencing throughout the class. These questions serve a dual purpose. Not only will the answers help to determine what should come next, but they serve to remind you to always be listening to and obeying your body's needs. Yoga can be hard work both physically and mentally. Therefore, patience and sensitivity set the pace for progress.

I teach classes in the evenings on Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30pm - 7:30pm, at Madison Fitness Center ( 1290 Eatonton Road / Madison).  These classes are Intermediate Level and previous Yoga experience is suggested if you wish to participate.
